After 4.5 years, here I am, back to the city holding a lot of memories, good and bad, smiles and tears.
I remember on the last day leaving the city about 4.5 years ago, I stood in a cement line (to protect the city from the sea) near Nguyen Tat Thanh, telling myself when I could be back, I would be back to the place.
Yet the thought could not come true.
The clear view of the sea from Nguyen Tat Thanh now all is blocked, by dense fences. Where is no fence, I can see there are a lot of unfinished blocks/ buildings inside the area.
The city has changed. It is normal, I know, but a little bit loss still…
When the plane landed, there was some exciting music took over the cabin. And there was a strange feeling took over me. I miss Da Nang, even when I am here.
4 hours was enough for me to take a short tour around some old favourite places. The unfinished construction now completed and actually, it has been used for few years. There are new infrastructure, more people, more crowded.
Even with “Truc Gia Vien”.
But I am glad I could be back. Even for a very very short time.
And I am also glad that I have met some people here in this hostel, this dormitory. A lady from the U.S, been living in different cities (HCMC, Hoi An, Da Nang, to name a few), each city for few months. Now she stays “long-term” in this hostel. A young man from the north, he comes here to work in Vinpearl Da Nang, also “long-term” and learning English from the lady. The owners of the guesthouse/hostel are a young family, a husband seems to have the origin from the North, while the wife has mixed voice of the north and the central. Tonight I have the opportunity to see their kindness. There was a couple had booked the place while they didn’t close the online booking on time. Thus, the couple arrived, the owners apologized, arranged their stay in another hostel with the same price and took their motorbikes to take them there for free. They said it was their mistake because they didn’t close the booking on time, so they did all this.
It should be a normal act, but it is not the norm everywhere. So, for me, they are obviously doing their business heartfully.
It’s long now. I am tired though it is only 9 PM. Tomorrow a meeting, a flight and a bus.
Glad to be here, anyway.
